Study plan

How to Study for the ASVAB in 30 Days

Start with a baseline, identify weak areas, and avoid dividing your time equally across every subject. Week 1 should establish foundations. Weeks 2 and 3 should combine targeted practice with review. Week 4 should include mixed sets, pacing and final error review.

A simple weekly framework

  • Week 1: diagnostic + Math/Verbal foundations.
  • Week 2: weakest two subtests + daily vocabulary/reading.
  • Week 3: Science/Technical/Spatial work + mixed practice.
  • Week 4: timed sets, full mock practice, review and sleep/test-day routine.

Math

ASVAB Math Methods Worth Practicing

Percentage discount

A $75 item discounted by 20%: 0.20 × 75 = 15, then 75 − 15 = $60.

Distance, rate and time

Use distance = rate × time. If 180 miles takes 3 hours, the rate is 60 mph.

Triangle area

Area = ½ × base × height. With base 12 and height 7, area = 42 square units.

Strategy

7 ASVAB Study Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Studying without identifying weak areas.
  2. Memorizing answers instead of methods.
  3. Ignoring vocabulary and reading practice.
  4. Rushing before accuracy is stable.
  5. Checking the correct answer without analyzing why you missed.
  6. Studying without a repeatable schedule.
  7. Waiting until the last minute to begin.
Official ASVAB preparation guidance also emphasizes reading directions and questions carefully, paying attention to time, and eliminating clearly wrong choices when you do not know the answer.
